Automated Microscope

As part of the OpenLabTools Initiative, a team of engineers, working at the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, UK, created a modular automated microscope. OpenBeam’s desktop sized extrusion provided a highly modifiable platform for the team to build the mechanical prototype very quickly. Image acquisition, analysis and data storage are performed by a Raspberry Pi and its camera module, while an Arduino and Reprap components are used for XY positioning of the sample and autofocus mechanism. All non-standard parts are designed to be 3D Printable and the design had been released into public domain.
